Leading at Smartsheet: A new chapter unfolds in India

I joined Smartsheet for three key reasons. First, the unparalleled opportunity to build a foundational team in India from the ground up for a proven, successful product company with strong momentum. It’s not every day you get to shape a foundational team, especially in a vibrant market like India, for a company with a clear vision, strong values, and a transformative product. Second, the culture. The sense of collaboration and shared values stood out from my first interviews — and I’m happy to say that feeling has only grown since joining. Finally, I believe deeply in the potential for our talent in India to make a significant impact across every function of the business, especially in product and technology. That’s a journey I’m excited to help shape.

This role is, quite simply, a builder’s dream. I get to assemble a world-class team, nurture a strong culture from day one, and establish a model that enables scale, creativity, and global collaboration. I’m excited by the challenge and inspired by the people already making it happen here. Building in India isn’t just about regional growth; it’s about fostering innovation and creating strategic impact across the entire company.

Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside incredible people and make meaningful contributions across a variety of environments. From my early days working on massively parallel databases at Oracle, to navigating the dot-com era with Netscape, to various startup adventures in between, every chapter has brought its own challenges and rewards. What connects them all is a sense of gratitude — for the teams, the fantastic learning experiences, and the opportunity to build products that make a difference. These experiences have taught me how to thrive in ambiguity, scale ideas into action, and stay customer-focused.

Woven through every professional challenge and opportunity has been a deep personal commitment to giving back. I try, in small ways, to contribute to every community I’m part of — professionally and personally. I carry the principle of “think globally, act locally” into all parts of my life. I have been very fortunate to have an incredible example in my wife, who consistently shows me and our two children how to lead with empathy and service. 

That sense of connection is also what helps me recharge. My wife and I share a deep love for offbeat travel, trekking, the Himalayas, and wildlife. There’s a kind of peace and clarity that only nature can offer. Reading, especially science fiction , is another way I recharge, with podcasts following closely behind.
