Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect on your interview journey with us

Application and resume review

After you submit your application, our recruiting team and hiring managers carefully review your resume. If your profile is selected, a recruiter will reach out to schedule your first conversation. If it’s not a match, we will let you know via email. 

What to expect
 
  • We receive hundreds to thousands of resumes for open positions. 
  • We suggest tailoring your resume to make it clear how your background applies to the specific job you want.
  • You may not hear from us right away after applying.
     

Recruiter screen

This is typically your very first interaction with the Smartsheet team! This 30-minute call with a recruiter is an opportunity for both of us to learn more. This is your chance to ask questions about the role, the team, or Smartsheet as a company.

  • We'll review the role you applied for in detail.
  • You'll share insights into your professional background and career goals.
  • We'll walk you through our interview process, so you know exactly what comes next.
  • We'll cover important logistical items like work authorization, compensation expectations, and your availability.

Initial interview

Following a successful recruiter screen, you’ll move on to an initial interview. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the role and team dynamics, and you may meet potential colleagues. Come prepared with questions!

30-60 MINUTES

What to expect
 
  • Non-technical roles: This will typically be a hiring manager screen, focusing on your experience and how it aligns with the team's needs.
  • Engineering roles: This interview will be coding-focused, often utilizing CoderPad, to assess your technical problem-solving skills.
  • Assessments: This stage will include assessments for cognitive ability and personality traits. These help us objectively evaluate candidates with standardized criteria and help us understand how candidates approach problem-solving, learn new concepts, and process information — skills that are critical for success in our roles. The assessments may take place earlier in the process for some roles.

Final interview and decision

If you are selected to continue, you’ll advance to the final interview stage. This typically consists of a series of 1:1 meetings. Each interviewer will focus on a specific skill or area of expertise related to the role or our values. A hiring decision is typically made after this step is completed.

What to expect
 
  • We strongly encourage you to review our company values and be prepared to share specific examples from your career that reflect on these points. Prepare questions about what's important in your next role. We are committed to ensuring a great mutual fit.
  • The interview and hiring team will meet to discuss feedback, typically within a week of your final conversation.
  • If the hiring team wants to move forward with an offer, your recruiter will reach out to discuss compensation, start availability, and other important details. If the hiring team decides not to proceed with an offer, your recruiter will notify you directly.
